VPN Setup Guide
Activate a plan in the panel, then import your subscription into a client. The steps below follow the usual setup order; skip any steps you’ve already completed using the table of contents.
Create an Account and Open the User Panel
Select “Start Free” to open the VPNIdea user panel’s account creation page. Enter a username and password, then follow the on-screen instructions. No email address is required, so keep your username and password somewhere safe, and don’t reuse a password from another site. Don’t include your password in a subscription name or share screenshots that reveal account details.
Once you’re done, follow the panel instructions to open your account. If you’re still on the sign-in page, use the username and password you saved to sign in. Confirm that you’re viewing your account before choosing a plan. Orders, client downloads, subscriptions, and support tickets are all handled in the panel—there’s no need to look for a hidden download button on the marketing site.
If you already have an account, just sign in. Check the plan and data status in your account overview first to avoid activating another plan just because you’re using a different device. VPNIdea allows unlimited simultaneous devices, but each device still needs an active subscription imported into a client and a connection enabled. Signing in to the website does not change your device’s exit IP.
Start Free Already have an account? Sign in →Choose a Plan and Check Your Order Status
Open the plans section in the panel and first decide between a monthly subscription and a data plan. Monthly subscriptions are suited to regular use, with data resetting each month on the activation date. Data plans last until the allowance is used and never expire. Don’t just compare the total data—consider whether you’ll connect regularly or only occasionally. For help choosing, see the billing section of our service selection guide.
Monthly subscriptions: ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB, and ¥28/month for 500GB. Data plans: ¥158 for 300GB, ¥358 for 1000GB, and ¥658 for 3000GB. After choosing a plan, check the billing method, data allowance, and total again on the order confirmation page, then follow the panel instructions to pay. Alipay, WeChat Pay, and USDT are supported; available payment options are shown on the order page.
After paying, return to the user panel and check your order status and account overview to confirm the plan is active. If the payment page shows completion but the panel hasn’t updated yet, refresh the order status—don’t pay again right away. If the payment and order status still don’t match, explain the issue in a panel support ticket and keep your order details handy for verification.
VPNIdea offers a 60-day money-back guarantee. See the refund policy for how to request a refund. If you upgrade a monthly subscription partway through its term, the price difference is converted into remaining days; check the panel for the updated details. Confirm that your plan is active before moving on to the subscription steps.
Choose This Plan View Plans →Get Your Subscription from the Account Overview
Once your plan is active, open the account overview and look for the subscription, copy-link, or client import options. A subscription is a configuration source for your client, not a regular webpage. You don’t need to paste it into your browser’s address bar to connect. A download prompt or block of configuration text in your browser doesn’t mean a proxy connection is active.
If the panel offers a one-click import option for your client, open the client first, then start the import from the panel. Your device may ask whether to open the app; check that it’s the right one before proceeding. Once the client receives the configuration, check that the subscription was saved, routes appear in the list, and the new configuration is selected.
If one-click import doesn’t open the app, select “Copy subscription link,” then use Import from URL in the client. Paste the complete link without removing any trailing parameters, and don’t enter it as a server address for an individual node. Subscription import and manually adding a single node are different features; using the wrong option will usually trigger a format error.
Your subscription link is tied to your account, so treat it as sensitive information. Don’t share it in public group chats, online conversion tools, or screenshots. The address below is an example of the format only and won’t connect; get your actual address from your own account overview.
https://example.com/sub?token=YOUR_TOKEN
After copying the link, go to the section for your platform below. There’s no need to adjust advanced routing or DNS settings yet. Keep the client’s default configuration and get through the import and connection steps first.
Open the Account OverviewImporting on Each Platform
You’ll need a client that can read subscriptions, let you choose a route, and handle the relevant network traffic—not an ordinary browser-based tool. Get the VPNIdea client from the panel and use the matching import method provided there. Sign in to download on Windows, macOS, Android, or Linux; you don’t need an active plan to download. To get a usable subscription and connect, check your account plan status. For iOS, follow the access instructions below.
Get the client from the panel →
Windows: Add a Subscription or Configuration
Select the Windows client in the downloads section, install it, and launch it. If you see a system permission prompt on first launch, confirm that the app came from the panel before continuing. Open Subscriptions, Configurations, or Profiles, then look for Add, Import, or Import from URL. Paste the full subscription link copied from your account overview, give the configuration a recognizable name, and save it.
Wait for the client to load the configuration and check whether the route list appears. If import succeeds but the client is still using an old configuration, select the one you just added. Then open the proxy or routes page and choose a route. In Windows clients, the system proxy switch and subscription management are separate steps: seeing routes means the configuration loaded, but you still need to connect in the next section.
macOS: Import and Select the Active Configuration
Get the macOS client from the panel, follow the system instructions to install it, and open it. You can usually access configuration management from the main window or menu bar. In Subscriptions, Configurations, or a similar section, choose URL import, paste the subscription, and save it. If you use one-click import from the panel, allow the browser to open the right app, then check that the new configuration appears in the client rather than relying on a success message in the browser.
Select the new configuration, then open the route list and choose a route. Depending on the client’s connection method, macOS may ask permission to add a network configuration, proxy helper, or VPN-related component. Follow the client’s instructions; you don’t need to disable system security protections. If you denied permission, check the app’s authorization in System Settings and try connecting again.
Android: Save the Subscription and Allow the VPN Connection
Sign in to the panel to get and install the Android client, then open its configuration or subscription management page. Tap Add, choose Import from URL, paste the complete subscription link, and save it. Once the new configuration appears, make it the active one, then open the nodes or proxy groups page and choose a route. Don’t paste the link into a field that only accepts individual node settings.
When you connect for the first time, Android may show a system prompt to confirm the VPN connection. Check the app name and allow the connection so the client can handle the relevant traffic. If the connection drops often when the app is in the background, check whether its background activity is restricted in the system’s battery settings. Menu locations vary by device, so follow your system’s instructions. Verify that the connection works before changing background settings, and avoid changing too many things at once.
iOS: Get and Import the Client Using the Panel
Access to the client for iPhone and iPad depends on the permissions shown in the panel: accounts with an active, unexpired plan can access the relevant App Store link; other accounts should follow the panel instructions. App availability may also vary by App Store region. If the link won’t open, don’t install an unknown configuration profile from an unfamiliar website. Check the panel instructions or ask through a support ticket first.
After installation, open the client and import the subscription by URL on the Subscriptions or Configurations page. You can also use the matching import option provided by the panel. Save and select the configuration, then choose a route. On the first connection, iOS will ask permission to add a VPN configuration; verify the client and allow it. Once the system confirms the setup, return to the app and connect. A VPN status indicator means the connection mechanism is active, but you still need to check whether the app you want to use works as expected.
Choose a Route and Connect
After importing, select the active subscription, then open the routes or proxy groups list. For your first connection, consider a nearby route that matches the region required by the service you want to use. VPNIdea covers 120+ countries with 150+ routes; coverage doesn’t guarantee that every app is accessible in every region. For AI tools and streaming services, check the platform’s regional policies and account requirements too.
Once you’ve chosen a route, turn on the client’s connection switch. If the desktop client has separate Start and System Proxy controls, follow its instructions to enable the option that suits your needs. On mobile, make sure you’ve granted the system VPN permission. You can keep the default rule mode for your first connection; there’s no need to switch to Global mode. In rule mode, local services may connect directly. That’s split tunneling, not a requirement for all traffic to use the same exit route.
While connected, pause any other proxy or VPN apps to avoid having multiple apps change your network settings at once. If you can’t connect, first check that your plan is active, the subscription is up to date, and the right configuration is selected, then try another route. Changing one route at a time makes it easier to tell whether the issue is with the current route or your local configuration. Don’t change routes, DNS, and routing rules all at once, or it’ll be hard to track what changed.
To learn about the differences between IEPL dedicated lines, relay routes, and direct connections, see our guide to route types. For now, just get one connection working. Leave advanced settings until the basic setup is running so you have a known-good starting point for troubleshooting.
Check Your Exit IP and Confirm the App Works
Once the client shows that you’re connected, open the IP lookup tool to check the exit details for your browser’s current requests. Compare the results while disconnected and connected to see whether the exit changes as expected for your selected mode. Geolocation databases may not always be up to date, so don’t judge the connection by city name alone. An IP lookup result also doesn’t prove that every app is using the selected route.
Next, close and reopen the site or app you want to use and test page loading, account sign-in, and the features you need. Existing pages may reuse an earlier connection, so refreshing the page or restarting the app gives you a more reliable check. If the browser works but an app doesn’t, check whether the client can handle that app’s traffic and whether your current rules send it directly.
DNS results need to be interpreted in the context of the client’s mode and the app’s behavior; a single test label can be misleading. Once the basic connection works, read our guide to checking exit IPs, DNS, and individual apps. During initial setup, don’t copy a full DNS configuration from the web just to get a particular test page to show a desired result.
If the service still isn’t working, note your platform, the exact error shown in the client, the selected route, and the affected app, then contact support through a panel support ticket. Hide your subscription link and other sensitive account details before sharing screenshots. Describing whether the configuration failed to import, the connection wouldn’t start, or the connection works but the app doesn’t will help pinpoint the problem more than simply saying “it doesn’t work.”
Once everything works, keep the current configuration. Before closing the client, if you need to restore your usual network setup, disconnect or turn off the system proxy as instructed by the client. When you switch devices later, get the subscription from your account overview and repeat the import steps for that platform; there’s no need to create another account just because you’re adding a device.
